Upgrades can give you boosts in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item upgrades by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.
Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrader mod level upgrade (go to this site) that is used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
