After a long period worry and speculation, Brazilian and German conservationists succeeded in reinserting two couples back into their natural habitat. Their story is inspirational, but also filled with backbiting and jealousies.
The first hurdle was to get enough birds for the trade. These macaws are monogamous, so the pairs needed to be matched well.
Range
A South African couple has taken on the mission of saving the critically endangered spix's macaw Lifespan - volsnab.ru, macaw pets. The bird was declared extinct by United Nations in 2000 owing to decades of habitat destruction and poaching. They have a small number of the birds kept in captivity and they hope to release them into the wild near Curaca. They refer to the birds as little blue companions, and compare their journey to the story of Presley, the only known Spix's Macaw found in the wild. They describe him as a true survivor who lost his family but remained loyal to the area.
