Item upgrades allow players to increase the item level of equippable items such as weapons or armor, as well trinkets above a certain threshold. You can upgrade items at any NPC that accepts the appropriate currency.
Slots are used to upgrade components into equipment to gain attributes bonuses and other effects. Most of these upgrades are slot-restricted however some are universal.
Rerolling
In Diablo 4, a player can roll back an upgrade for an Best item upgrade. This is done through the Level Up feature, which pauses your game and displays four randomly selected upgrades. The player can select one of the upgrades and then continue the battle. Rerolling costs the same as the normal Level Up. However, players must be careful when choosing an upgrade because they will not know what the new stats will be until the Best item upgrader is changed.
The upgrade level of an item is determined by the item upgrading's tier and rarity.
