What Can a smart car key fob (read this) Do For You?
Mercedes introduced the first fobs in the year 1998. They are also known as smart car key programmer keys, keyless entry or keyless entry fobs. These computer-controlled fobs are capable of performing a variety of functions like locking and unlocking your car or beginning it.
They transmit an encrypted message that is continuously transmitted. This keeps them safer from hackers with a technological edge.
Safety
A replacement smart key key fob constantly communicates with a vehicle via radiofrequency waves. It sends a low-power signal that, when pressed instructs the car to open doors and begin its engine. The car is programmed to recognize the unique encrypted code of a particular key fob. This means that even when the key fob is stolen, it isn't used to begin the car.
But a brand new smart car key type of hacking could enable thieves to gain access to that communication. Relay attacks are based on devices that transmit on the same frequency as the key fob.
